With over 15 years of experience in Philadelphia, New York and Vermont, Mr. Smith is recognized by his peers as a talented design architect, a skillful technician and a thorough construction contract administrator.
From traditional Japanese tea houses to modern high-rise hotels, his experience is drawn from a wide range of building types. His work in Vermont began at Truex-Cullins in Burlington. While at the firm, he completed the Marriott Courtyard Burlington Harbor Hotel Phase One, The Westlake Condominiums, collaborated on the preliminary design of the proposed new South Burlington Police Station, and was the project architect for the Vermont Secretary of State Archives Building in Montpelier.
In Philadelphia he participated in the design of both high-end residences and affordable homes. In New York, he renovated historical yacht clubs and high-rise office buildings. In the commercial realm, he has designed car dealerships, stores, restaurants and shopping centers.
Since establishing his own practice in 2006, Mr. Smith has focused primarily on hospitality projects and homes. He has completed a renovation of the Marriott TownePlace Suites in Williston, VT and currently has two hotel projects underway in Burlington, VT. The Burlington Marriott Courtyard addition will begin construction in Fall 2009, and Burlington’s first LEED-Certified hotel is currently moving through Zoning approvals, and is anticipated to start construction in Summer 2010.
He is currently a member of the Winooski Advisory Planning Council where he has been involved in rewriting the Winooski Zoning Ordinance. Until recently, he also volunteered his time as a member of the Development Review Board.
As the son of an award-winning passive-solar architect, his committment to sustainable design runs deep. Mr. Smith brings an understanding of LEED® and an engineer’s problem-solving approach to every project.
